What to expect when you visit my clinic
Your initial consultation
If you’re a new patient, we’ll begin with a 60-minute consultation appointment.
Understanding your issues and goals
We’ll start by having a chat about your problem and I’ll listen to everything you have to say. I want to understand the issue you’re having, how it’s affecting or limiting you, and what you’re hoping chiropractic will do for you.
Maybe you want to reduce muscle tension and tightness. Maybe you’d like to move better, without pain or stiffness. Maybe your focus is on staying active and supporting your continuing mobility.
Assessing what may be contributing
After our discussion, I’ll carry out a physical assessment. I’ll observe your posture, movement and range of motion. Using hands-on assessment, I’ll assess your muscles and joint function, along with neurological and orthopaedic tests where appropriate.
One of the assessment tools I use is functional muscle testing. This allows me to assess how well muscles and the nervous system are coordinating during particular movements. I use this alongside the rest of my assessment to help build a working explanation of what may be contributing to your problem.
Once I’ve completed my assessment, I’ll explain what I’ve found, what may be contributing to your problem and what I recommend we do next.
Next steps
If I can offer you treatment, I’ll talk you through what to expect. And, if it’s appropriate, I’ll give you your first treatment during the appointment.
If I’m not the best person to resolve your issue, I’ll refer you to someone who can.
